Dr. Eddie Desko & Caring Pathways Testimonials

Dr. Eddie felt like an angel walking through the door as we held our family pup of 18 years on his last day. Walking into such a fragile space, he made us all feel comforted in his presence, soft words and confidence in his ability to be the best angel to our dear Thor. Because of Dr. Eddie and his immense support and compassion, we felt so certain in our very difficult decision. His support and tender care was extended to our other dogs present, 8 family members and of course to Thor. An emotional time like this turned beautiful and sacred because of the facilitation and complete safety and trust Dr. Eddie provided. I have never in my life witnessed or thought possible that saying goodbye to a dear pet family member could be so touching as it was. My family and myself have utmost respect and gratitude to the team of Caring Pathways and Dr. Eddie for creating this end of life space the attention and love it deserves. We are so blessed for you all, and making the difficult so held in warmth and love.

On May 23rd, I was privileged to have experienced a truly sacred moment, when Dr. Eddie came to help my almost 17-year-old border collie mix pass over the Rainbow Bridge. I will be forever grateful to this young man for treating my dog with such deep respect and compassion. He is truly called to this vocation to give animals and their owners a sense of peace in the midst of so much sadness. Thank you for being who you are Dr. Eddie.
— Mimie, Caring Pathways Client
I have nothing but praises for Caring Pathways and the care that Dr. Eddie provided. What was a devastating situation with our sweet boy, Briggs, Dr. Eddie was able to give us a heartbreakingly beautiful experience as he crossed the rainbow. The peace, calm, and comfort that was given to Briggs, my husband, and I was a gift I will never be able to fully express my gratitude for. At no point during our appointment did we feel rushed. Instead, we felt like we had family over and told stories and laughed about everything that made Briggs the very best boy. All of the details were so thoughtful, including reading materials on how to have the hard conversations with our 2 young boys. We were so grateful to have had Briggs in our family for 10 years. Dr. Eddie gave us the ability to make him feel how much we loved him, until the very end. We are forever thankful.

We had to have our dogs put down. Eddie Desko was the vet who came to our house. He was like an angel. I literally cannot imagine how it could have gone smoother or how he could have been any nicer or more understanding. I’m tearing up writing this. I wish people could go like this.
— John, Caring Pathways Client
This past Sunday we made the most heartbreaking decision, to say goodbye to our sweet girl. Dr. Eddie came to assist and instantly became a part of our family in a way few would understand. Thank you, Dr Eddie for easing her pain, for bonding with our son, and helping us all say goodbye. You gave us the ability to bless her with this gift and dignity that not everyone is able to have. We’ll forever hold Starbuck in our hearts and you are there, too.

Knowing When It’s Time

Deciding when to euthanize a beloved pet is an incredibly difficult decision that requires careful consideration and consultation with a veterinarian. Here are some key indicators that may help pet owners determine if it is time to consider euthanasia:

  • Chronic Pain: If your pet is experiencing chronic pain that cannot be managed effectively with medication or other treatments, it may be time to consider euthanasia. Pain can significantly impact your pet's quality of life, making it difficult for them to enjoy daily activities.

  • Difficulty Breathing: Breathing difficulties can be a sign of severe illness or organ failure. If your pet is struggling to breathe, it may be a sign that their condition is deteriorating, and euthanasia may be a compassionate choice.

  • Inability to Eat or Drink: If your pet is unable to eat or drink, it may indicate a decline in their health. This can lead to malnutrition and dehydration, further impacting their quality of life.

  • Lack of Interest in Activities: If your pet is no longer interested in activities they once enjoyed, such as playing, walking, or socializing, it may be a sign that they are experiencing discomfort or pain.

  • Incontinence: Incontinence can be a sign of declining health and may cause distress for your pet. If your pet is unable to control their bladder or bowels, it may be an indicator that their quality of life is diminishing.

Are you unsure of what to do?

Caring Pathways offers TeleAdvice Appointments, providing a convenient and compassionate way to discuss your pet’s quality of life from the comfort of your home through video conferencing. These 30-minute sessions are led by experienced veterinary hospice and palliative care professionals, allowing for in-depth conversations about your pet’s condition, evaluating their quality of life, and exploring options for end-of-life care or palliative support. The fee for a TeleAdvice Appointment is $129.

How Does It Work?

  • Fill out the TeleAdvice Request Form, and expect a follow-up call from the Caring Pathways team within 24 hours.

  • At your scheduled time, you’ll meet with a veterinary professional via a provided video link—no app installation needed. Your pet may be observed to assess their breathing, mobility, comfort, and other physical attributes.

  • During the appointment, the veterinarian will help you evaluate your pet’s quality of life, discuss specific concerns, and determine the next steps, whether it’s palliative care or euthanasia.

What to Expect:

  • A virtual introduction to your pet.

  • Detailed discussions on measuring your pet’s quality of life and what to expect moving forward.

  • A follow-up email summarizing the appointment and including resources such as grief support and care plans.

Important Disclaimer: While TeleAdvice Appointments provide valuable guidance, they do not replace the need for in-person veterinary exams. A licensed veterinarian can only give an official diagnosis or prognosis after a hands-on physical examination of your pet. For full diagnostic services and prescriptions, an in-person visit may be necessary, especially if your pet is in the early stages of their end-of-life journey.

Client Feedback:
“Dr. Kelly was wonderful and went well beyond the 30 minutes to make sure she answered every concern. She is so compassionate and a wonderful listener!”

TeleAdvice offers a compassionate, professional way to ensure your pet’s comfort and receive expert guidance—all without leaving your home.
